mechtiger
Hi I have just set up a new octagonal tank, it's now 4 days and has fish in it. They seem fine but I have noticed that the water at the top of the tank seems cloudy. Any ideas as to what may be causing this?
kim
could be a few things , when you first set up a tank the gravel is dusty and the dust floats round the tank and in a week or two it goes clear (depending on the filter you have some times its days ) 2nd it could be over feeding.... rule of keeping fish there tummy is as big as there eye so dont do what it says on the box as they want you to over feed your fish. the brand of fish food can cloud the water, cheap stuff is just that cheap and not good for the fish and in the long run it costs you more . Caryl
Was the tank cycled first?
mechtiger
Hi Caryl For about 3 days
Caryl
I hope you keep testing the water then as I fear you have added too many fish and too fast. If the cloudiness is just at the top I would suspect gravel dust. Is it clearing at all yet?
Alan
I would think gravel dust would form throughout the water column. Sounds like a bloom to me Keep doing water changes. Alan
Caryl
I thought it was the other way around Alan. My blooms always went right through all the layers, but mostly in the middle.
