Cycling

Ohk so today I pulled down my 300L coldwater aquarium. Put my goldfish in the pond outside and re-homed everyone else.

Didn't touch the filter at all as this was cleaned not long ago so everything should cycle through pretty fast.

Anyway I will still be cycling as if it was brand new.

My question is out of the following fish which would be the best fish for cycling?

Harlequin Rasbora

Glowlight Danio

Or Blueline Rasbora?

I'm getting neons aswel but would prefer not to cycle with these.

Thanks in advance!

I'd use the glowlight danio or harlequins, but it really depends what you're willing to take a risk with. Personally, I've never had a problem with any fish dying in a cycle - but I do add them very slowly and only add 1 or 2 at a time. You'll probably find that the tank will cycle in a few weeks because you're using an established filter.

As the filter is already cycled you should have no issues just adding some fish and letting things find their natural balance, especially in a tank that big.

I suggest you just drop in the Danios, and if everything is fine after a week, add a few more of whatever. Neons last is a good idea though, let the tank get established and stable before you add those.

But really I dont think it will make a big difference what group you add first.

Good luck

Agree'd with Ianab.. Just choose one group of anything (unless you plan to add more than like 10 of each) they are all small and wont create much mess. You have a big tank with a filter that has already had some sort of cycle (although most of its bacteria will have died off if it had no fish in there to produce waste to feed it) so you probably wont detect any ammonia.. Feed lightly and watch your readings just in case but I don't think you will have any problems with it.

Obviously leave things for a few weeks and build up slowly keep up with water changes etc and it will be sweet.
