kyathit danio

i just bought one for $10

how common are they in new zealand

did i pay a good price

it is schooling with 1 zebra and 3 gold zebras is this ok or should i get another kyathit

also can you get bengal danios in new zealand

and mine is not orange but i am 100% sure its a kyathit is this just not an orange finned one

quite common another name they come under is fire ring danio. I like them they seem to get slightly larger than the other danios. agree with dixon id get more if you can1 $10 is quite steep they are generally no mre than $6 each :o

Sorry to controdict but the kyathit and the fire ring Danio ( also known as the Red Fin Danio )are two seperate species . The Kyathit came into NZ about 18 months ago for the first time and the Fire ring only in the last 6 months.

Both are great fish, I've bred the Kyathit many times and the firering is a lot harder.

In my (fairly limited) experience, all kinds of danios seem to be quite happy in a mixed school. When I have had several different kinds in a tank, they all just intermingle and don't seem to prefer to school with others of the same type.

Personally I like to have more than one of any type of fish, just for aesthetic reasons. I would suggest getting another one or more kyathits, and also just generally boosting your school size to get a good effect (both visually and socially).
