Virgil
hey just need some input. Tank is going great, its 6 weeks in and no fish fatalities for a couple or so weeks (touching wood). But have now noticed the last week or so these black spot/smudges on the tank. Ive been wiping them clean but then they reappear within a day or so. There would be maybe 3 or 4 at any 1 time. Also seem to be around the same area, although as the back and 1 side is up against a wall there could be more. Is it algae? cheers
Caryl
Sounds like a type of algae. Just keep wiping it off and as the tank matures and fully cycles, and the plants grow, the algae should disappear.

paekakboyz
you'll get all sorts of algae over time virgil... one type tends to be bright green and tough to remove - using an old eftpos/credit card as a scraper works really, really well could be the tank is getting a bit of indirect light and that is likely to increase algae growth... Virgil
You mean like this? Yep very similar to that...just not as bad thankfully. Only been 3 or 4 spots. you'll get all sorts of algae over time virgil... one type tends to be bright green and tough to remove - using an old eftpos/credit card as a scraper works really, really well could be the tank is getting a bit of indirect light and that is likely to increase algae growth... Could be, its in the lounge and does get sunlight almost directly. Its a small house and basically theres nowhere that doesnt get sunlight. Cheers fullas/fullesses! Caryl
So what makes you think I have never seen it before? That is my temporary tank. It sits on the coffee table and gets quite a bit of direct sunlight - which is why that algae is over it 8)
