HelenMac
I've had to turn my sump off to do a minor repair to a pipe that was leaking have siliconed it back together. I'm supposed to leave to dry for twelve hours. Can I just leave the cichlids with a bubble wall going and couple air stones and heater overnight. Tank is 4ft by 2ft x 2ft. David R
My biggest concern would be the filter media getting dry and killing the bacteria. Is there any way of setting up a temporary pipe, or a small pump to keep the water moving thru the sump?
gilly
Not too sure how your fish will be without filtered water. Don't feed em and perhaps change the water. I'd be worried about the bacteria in the filter tho you need to keep water moving through it to keep the bacteria alive.
HelenMac
I've put a couple powerheads in the sump to keep the water moving. There is also a heater in there. No way filter media can dry out there is 100 litres of water in there.
David R
So all the media is below the water then? I'd also say don't feed them. How heavily stocked is the tank and when did you last do a water change?
HelenMac
probably about 20 cichlids most are still juveniles couple real big ones. Did water change last Thursday so due for another one Tomorrow when turn everything back on. Found another small power head so have put that in the main tank. si_sphinx
as long as there is some sort of current in the tank they should be fine, ive had to have fish in a 100ltr tub for 24hrs before when i had to fix a tank leak and they were all fine with small power head and heater in there. TM
Depends on the silicone. The stuff i use can dry under water.
si_sphinx
yes but the silicone will also release harmful toxins into the water that can kill the fish and bacteria in the sump
