David R
Other than the common apple snails, and those little annoying prolific pest ones that I feed to my clown loaches, what other species are available here?

Dixon1990
Large Malayan trumpets shouldnt be fed to Clowns or Puffers as their shells get really Thick and Can damage they fish.

AFAIK they only get to about 2cm long, and I dont see how the sell could harm the loaches unless it had a sharp lip as the loaches just suck the animal from inside the shell. Do you have any of those Mystery Snails in stock??
A.PROPHECY
yep a few ay the clowns enjoy them
Dixon1990
 I thought the loaches ate the shells too, Yea they only get to 2cm, but they can get quite wide if they dont live for a while. They are still bad for puffers though
newfisher
I'm pulling out about 10 snails a day from my tanks don't know what they are but if anyone wants them to feed their fish let me know. Thought about getting a clown loach to get rid of them but it'll grow too big.
David R
How big is your tank? You'll want 3-4 loaches at the bare minimum, and I'm sure most LFS's would be happy to take some good sized loaches off your hands!
VinsonMassif
My mystery snails are a little bigger than 5cm diam. As long as you have medium KH and GH they will grow fast. They reach sexual maturity at 1inch but need two to tango
newfisher
My tank is only 130ltr onther one is 75ltrs. Do you think it would be big enough while they are little? I have DG, BN's neons in one and Guppys in the other.
whetu
I have some clown loaches that would just luuuurve some yummy snails. What part of Auckland are you in? I did think of offering you one of my loaches to come on a play-date to your tank and clean out all the snails, but I think that's probably a bit too risky and stressful. I second the idea of getting a small herd of loaches, get them to thoroughly clean your tank, then sell them back to the lfs (or sell them to someone on here. BUT ... The loaches I'm seeing in the LFS at the moment are absolutely tiny. They could probably tackle tiny newly hatched snails but might not be much good on bigger ones AND ... Clownies are far too easy to get attached to - I don't know how good you are at not getting emotionally involved with your fish, but you might find it VERY DIFFICULT to part with them once your tank is snail-free. You have been warned!
newfisher
Thanks Whetu I'm on the North Shore. Get really attached to my fish. Probably would end up by getting another tank to keep them in and my familly would cry  . I think I'll go to the Animates sale on the weekend and see if I can get a couple of loaches. Unless you are on the Shore/town and them I can dorp them off to you.....
