Caper
I was just on my way to bed and was turning out the tank lights when I noticed what looked like 2 bubbles on Sam. Upon closer inspection, it looks like it could be poo (it looks like that's where it's coming from). The 2 things that look like bubbles are near the top. It's late here so I don't have time to play with photobucket and as some of you may know photobucket has made some changes in editing pics and I haven't been there in awhile so please let me know if the pic is too big. So what do you folks think it could be. Not the best pic but when you look at it, it almost looks like it is attached to the side of him but in person it does look like it is coming from his bum. Okay, had to see what I could find before heading off to sleepy land! Found this on a site posted on her by Caryl: the site is http://www.kokosgoldfish.com/GoldfishPoop.html White poop with air bubbles: There isnt any color to the poop and there is air trapped in the poop. This is signs of constipation, the food isnt being prossed in the fish. Fish should be not feed for three days and then feed nothing but peas for three days. So, would you agree this is it???? Caryl
Sounds like it might be.
Caper
Thanks Caryl I am doing the no feed then peas thing! But I am curious, I normally feed my fish twice a day and do not feed on Sunday. But we've been having some really hot weather lately...oh how I LOVE summer :bounce: :bounce: , so I've reduced their feedings to once a day. Now I honestly can't say if I read it somewhere or what but for some reason I thought it was best to reduce the feeding, but do I need to do that??? Anyway, my point is wouldn't you think that reducing the feedings would be less likely for the fish to be constipated??? But what I saw coming from Sam was exactly as what the article described. bedazzled
I thought goldfish ate more in summer as the warm weather sped up their metabolism and less in cold weather (winter) I am not positive though, there is probably some one more qualified to give you a confirmation or correction
Caper
hmmm bedazzled...that's interesting. Right now I'm trying to catch up on missed posts but I'll have to do a search on the net to check that out! So then, since my other fishies are tropicals would you say that the increase in temp tank shouldn't bother them and I should resume the twice a day feedings??? Caryl
Yes goldfish in ponds semi hibernate. Once the water temp drops below 10C their digestive systems shut down. When the water warms again the systems slowly kick back in. Not usually a problem in an indoor tank.
bedazzled
I must admit to not feeding my fish in a consistent pattern like you seem to, If I am walking past and they look interested I feed them lol Could be 3 times a day or it could be once The temp in my tank is consistent though so I guess there is no change in the metabolism. I think I was told about the warm/cold thing in relation to fish in an outside pond though so I am really not too sure
