MarkLB
Hi dwalk. Congrats. :bounce: This thread was put up recently....covers your first question 8) http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/melano ... 31219.html HTH. How many litres does the 1 foot tank hold? It may be OK for a short time depending on literage. Nice looking tank BTW
smidey
i strip at day 17 or 18. put them in a two foot tank & feed them heaps with two water changes a week. stripping allows the female to eat 4 days earlier than otherwise would if left to spit so they are better for it. some fish are easier to strip than others, my yellow just lies in my hand & lets them go. my red zeb fightts me all the way & my baenschi peacock spits the moment i put her into the ice cream container. i use a tooth pick that i have cut the end off so no sharp point. check out this video which is how i learnt http://www.cichlid-forum.com/videos/stripping.php
dwalk
Thanks Smidey, Stripping a fish still scars me a bit, I don't want to accidently hurt her!

smidey
Thanks Smidey, Stripping a fish still scars me a bit, I don't want to accidently hurt her! i thought the same. I must have done it 15 times now & never had a problem. The red zeb fought so much & got away on my once that the toothpick went all the way down her belly but no harm done. Its actually quite interesting, you can see almost right the way down to their tail. Basically, you need to lever their jaw down & pump the gills a little & soon enough you'll have a swag of fry in your container.
