waterfaller1
What is the reason you don't have access to the same equipment & livestock/plants? Is it illegal to have certain plants? Does it cost alot to get them shipped? The reason that brought me to your forum is I Googled Dutch style aquariums.
cichlid7
The reason we dont have all the cool stuff is MAF and Bio-security (i think) are

Caper
:bounce: :bounce: Love the white with the darker substrate. Question though, do you have a hard time keeping them "separate" especially when doing a vacuum? Caper
georgeous
You generally hover the vac just above the surface of the substrate, so the sand isn't sucked up, but fish poo is.
Caper
Okay, that makes sense. But next question then  , with sand aren't you supposed to "run" your fingers through it, ah to remove trapped gases (I might be remembering the wrong terms here)! SpidersWeb
Yes, doing so prevents inaerobic (spelling?) bacteria from building up. But I don't, in most situations doing this is really impractical. You can use trumpet snails if its of concern, as they will burrow through the sand and aerate it. If you can do it without too much trouble then it's a good idea, and it's certainly more important if you have large digging cichlids. I've just got way too much rock work, and if I removed it once a week, I'd have some angry lionheads and one sulking gourami. Lots of water and big filter tend to take care of any nasties that get released from the occasional digger.

Afrikan
Very nice waterfaller... love the plant at the front to the side of the white sand... the one that looks like a yucca tip stuck in the gravel  What is that?
Guest
Very very nice tank setup. Did you breed that fighter/betta with anything? How did you get on with the Blue tiger shrimp babys
waterfaller1
The "yucca tip" or porcupine shaped plant is called Eriocaulon Australia II. I have not bred my betta, I am not a breeder..just a lover. The baby blues are growing, but very slowly. Thanks for the compliments. 8)
