chimera
yeah, pic's tonight
chimera
Ok, updated pic's. I've included photo's already (posted on page 36, which made me realise how much crap was posted after that) from around August just before starting Zeovit to compare. Bear in mind however, I have only done a single 100 litre water change since then. This is about 500 litres short of what zeovit recommend  Doing a 200 litre water change tomorrow night then another 200+ litre change next weekend then 100 litres every 1-2 weeks after that. So, the pic's don't give justice to how zeovit should work because of my lack of maintenance. However, it still shows that it works - and I'd be most interested to see what the corals would have been like if i'd continued with weekly 10% changes since starting. Most noticeable is a definate increase in diatom growth! *start self-sarcasm* gee i wonder why *end self-sarcasm* 30 august 3 october ------------------------------------------------- 30 august 3 october ------------------------------------------------- 30 august 3 october ------------------------------------------------- 7 august 3 october ------------------------------------------------- 7 august 3 october (oops, knocked the top off ) ------------------------------------------------- 13 august 3 october there are more pic's, but not worthy of posting as there is little change other than a "lighter" brown. quite likely these corals will need a little more time before zooxanthallae starts growing. reef
got some good growth, would help if you changed to 10k bulbs or blv14k. As i have noticed heaps of growth with brighter bulbs, The narva 14k look very nice but not good for coral growth. I read somewhere that adding to much amino acids causes the brown diatoms. i am getting more diatoms when i stated to dose Salifert amino acids. Higher temp also causes the diatoms I think you stated that you had 0 Nitrates, I have found if you can increase your nitrates your will get better colours. raised mine from 0 to 2ppm and overnight i noticed better colours. chimera
got 250W 14k's on the outside and a 150W 10k in the middle. calcium reactor doses 24x7 which helps with growth tank at 25 degrees, temp controlled so doesnt tend to move much dose cyclop-eeze every 2nd night which may contain amino acids
reef
dose cyclop-eeze every 2nd night Might be the cause of you algae. the stuffis pretty rich in nutrients, I dosed some to my baby banggai and within two days the tank went green. the tank does get some sunlight. Have you just added the 10k??
chimera
no, 10k was added about a month before starting zeovit. certainly made an improvement with aesthetics - and being in the better 'growth' spectrum would certainly help with photosynthesis too. Pies
Chimera - Having seen that 'pink' poclapora at your home, I can say I though it was just 'another' brown coral with 'potential'. It looks like the potential is showing though, looks like it will be a stunner. The acro growth on the milli and formsa (like) acros also looks impressive. Can't wait to see it in 6 months time, bet its a stunner. Keep it up, get up a front pic too. Nice to see all the hard work finally paying off. AWESOME. wasp
Coming along Chimera! Good results thus far! No TN also which is the main thing, shows you're doing it right. Some nice PE also. Have you seen that increase since starting zeovit?

Pies
I have been feeding cyclops every night for about 3+ months, and frequently for at least 3 months prior to that. Might explain why my tanks so dirty... Pie
chimera
looking at that last post of your pies where you collect water from, at least it "looks" so crystal clear - and at least you're getting to do water changes! good old auckland weather - fine during the week then p@#$ down on the weekend

wasp
Dunno what you guys been doing, but I've been getting reasonably good water at Takapuna all through the last few months. Just have to pick the moment.
chimera
"the (right) moment" - thats the problem. im pretty happy with the results of zeovit in just over 4 weeks, especially considering there has only been a single 10% water change in 6 weeks. getting the wife to get a bag of salt today and a water change will be done tonight. I'll put new pic's in another 4 weeks time (or earlier if there are significant changes)
