fins
What species of killifish are allowed into New Zealand. I am asking this because I have seen a few species around that are not on the "allowed list into NZ" such as Austrolebias , Fundulopanchax, Jordanella, Nematolebias and Simpsonichthys. Those are all from the NZKA website and are not on the allowed list.
Rob
Jordinella is on the allowed list. Many of the others it may be a case of using an older name eg Simpsonichthys constanciae (the one simpsonichthys I've seen in NZ) could get bought in using it's old name Cynolebias constanciae (as all Cynolebias are allowed). The allowed list isn't kept up-to-date with the taxanomic revisions so fish under their currently valid name may not show on the list but if you look at some of the synonyms for the fish one of these may appear on the list. S. bokermanni has been here, but otherwise you covered it pretty well. Lots of things, especially the previous Cynolebias have been split up into various other genera and that hasn't been reflected in the 'allowed' list. These names are always under review, which is one problem with a list of that nature. It happens with the genus earlier know as Cichlasoma too. Andrew. Rob
One good place to find out synonyms is fishbase.org For any given fish species listed there is synonyms link, which lists every scientific name the fish has been known by.
