Zabman
Hi, Last night I noticed a couple of spots in my aquarium where a horrible blue-grey, threadlike algae has started growing. I have had this in the past and it was a nightmare - overran the whole tank and I had to start from scratch. I was hoping someone could advise a nice looking, fast growing plant that I could plant to help prevent this? I have cabomba, but everything else is relatively slow growing. tHEcONCH
Do more frequent water changes and increase the circulation in your tank
Zabman
There is great water circulation in the tank, but I will definately change the water more frequently. At present, I change about 1/4 every week. Will more water changes stop that nasty algae?
tHEcONCH
It sounds like you are already doing enough, but generally if you have good flow, not too many nutrients, and good light it doesn't grow - when was the last time you renewed your tubes? Zabman
I replaced 1 tube about 3 weeks ago and the other about 1 month before that. I am wondering if there are to many nutrients in the tank?
tHEcONCH
If light and flow are good, then that's really all that is left - you can accidentally introduce a lot of nutrients with cheap food. Some brands, like JBL have phosphates and other problem causing things removed, and are well worth the extra cost, IMO. perhaps try feeding less, and or buying phosphate-free food. ps. pluck off the affected leaves etc now to minimise its ability to spread.
