DOC says about them here; http://www.doc.govt.nz/templates/page.aspx?id=33409 and their legal definition is "unwanted organism" but I can't see where you are fined for having them or distributing but I thought it was illegal. They will jump on you if you try to sell them on Trademe Chinese guy from west auckland sold a batch on TM yesterday under auction for 'guppies'. I emailed TM but they did nothing. Interesting.
