cichlid7
What type of skimmer would you recommend for a 200L tank. For now i am going to set it up a a FOWLR tank and then i might add stronger light and get all the corals ect.... i will put a sump on it what sort of lighting would be good for now its a 3FT tank thanks
camnbron
As per previous subject discussion: The best skimmer you can afford (within reason). I have a deltec MCE600 on my 440L system. I find it to be a good skimmer, very bulletproof. I got it secondhand off another reefer. It would probably be too big for your tank, but they make a smaller model. For lighting since you are going fish only with live rock, you don't need heaps of fancy lights. Anything will do really (again within reason), as its just so you can see and enjoy the fish. If you went with a higher K light they have a more blue light, this will make the fishes colour pop more. Thinking to the future you may want to consider using a light fitting like one of those Hagen T5's with a remote ballast and individual reflectors as then you can shuffle the tubes around to suit the tank and other lighting you may want to add. RTBS
We had a Deltec MC500 on our first marine tank, 220l 3 footer,It rocked but had to upgrade it when we went bigger along with it seems everything else
markoshark
You do not NEED a skimmer on a FOWLR tank. It is advisable to have, but provided you do regular waterchanges you should be OK, Will help spread the cost out a bit. But with corals, yeah, need a skimmer

Kevin
our 130 ltr ran for a year with no skimmer and it was fine, changed 10 to 20 ltr a week and fish were healthy, simple mush and zoas etc were ok too, altho after getting white spot introduced with a new fish i cant recommend a uv light enough, think it was about $60 and that and adding abag of carbon made the water like glass and took any yellow out of it,i have just added a reefoctopus hob skimmer because want to try fussier corals now and it was $250 new,
