ryanjury
lol that is a good point But if someone like me brought it like I was going to to breed from it would have sucked.. I guess thats all a descent id is good for.. I do keep and breed the line bred hybrids dragons bloods, ob's etc but I was under no misconceptions when I brought them and with all my peacocks breed them in species tanks so there are no problems. All in all if your not breed from them then it doesn't matter, my only concern is if they aren't chilumba and people breed and sell them they could get crossed with the other chilumba's and it could be another species ruined in NZ. Obviously thats pretty extreme. Either way if they're for display and they look good then enjoy them
Anna_&_Chris
People will id and call their fish what they want I guess, and I guess its just knowing who to buy them off well if everyone would be as encouraging to breed as you and some other people are there would be no peacock breeders in new zealand left at all in a very very short time. ryanjury
well if everyone would be as encouraging to breed as you and some other people are there would be no peacock breeders in new zealand left at all in a very very short time. That would never happen as there are plenty of people (me included) who have a number of tanks and breed peacocks in their own species tanks I know of at least 9 of them without thinking very hard, not to mention most of our stocks are imported or bred by one of the wholesalers
Anna_&_Chris
good point , and i dont want it to hapen either. that was the last batch of babies i kept i cant be bothered with more. from the begining i just wanted a show tank. but seriously now tha tgot me thinking, if we name him a royal blue and he realy isnt , it doesnt mean that there wont be cross breeding, it just means we wont know about it. so whatever we name it its not gona help... banaro
thats why you buy from the same sourse or same batch or the same parents ect

ryanjury
lol yeah I think I might have got some from the same source awesome fish Yeah we wont live forever and at the end of the day you make no more friends or money or anything from doing it well the only thing I get out of it is breeding descent fish and hopefully someone being happy with what they've brought Hopefully there are always people in NZ who will keep them pure as eventually the lake may get closed and the only thing we will have is whats already in the country which is why I think we need to keep them pure. I guess it doesn't bother you as your not breeding just keeping a nice male only display tank.

Tropheus
Anna. Got any more pics?? The Chilumbas I purchased 3-4 months ago (not from anna) have been growing well into something THATS NOT CHILUMBAS. The person that sold them to me has moved house so I am unable to return them. If i find his new residential address I will be posting all 12 back to him one by one or unless he refunds my money. These guys resemble a Royal Blue shape. Not elongated like a Chilumba.
ryanjury
Mike Did you get yours from Ken? Its a shame when people get ripped off paying top $$ for fish that aren't what they're supposed to be. From the pics that Anna has provided I'm sure her's are royal blues too they are rather thick not long like chilumba.. It maybe hard to tell as the pic's are not directly side on. Did you look at the pics Mike?
Anna_&_Chris
ill try to take a pic from the side, after i had the talk with ryan i was keeping an eye on him and trying to look into him and understand again, they so dam close. ill try to catch a good picture, and il post it here . hes always moving so hard to catch.. Anna_&_Chris
i dont care if you say hes royal bluefor sure il be thinkin that hes royal blue.. i am comfused myself, didnt do it for getin more money as i simply didnt know that it would even matter how much they will cost and al that. but now my mind is disturbed and i want to figure out What he actually is!
ryanjury
Yeah fair enough and then you'll have to contact all the people who you sold them too and tell them what you sold them wasn't actually chilumba (if thats the case which im pretty sure of) and put that right too.. I know that it probably doesn't matter to you what people sell them as, but to those of us that put alot of time energy money and passion into keeping the cichlids in NZ pure it is a big deal.. Mike any chance of some pics of yours? Even if you email them to me ill happily post them for you..
Anna_&_Chris
oh thatd be hard to do! il see if ive got trademe emails still saved thatd be the only way as i dont keep the emails in my mailbox.... although most of people that bought them just liked that they were blue thats al.. as i said before some of people didnt even know they were freshwater... so had to explain al principles of keeping them... if you see carl though or have contact with him you can suggest that they mite not be chilumbas, althought il still take some pics and will try to double check what they are.. what if they really are..
ryanjury
Yeah it would be hard but it would be the right thing to do.. If I brought a fish as something and found out myself it wasn't I would be annoyed.. But if the seller emailed me and explained it would make more sense.. Yes alot of people brought your fish because they were pretty but they can and probably will breed for them and they will probably pass them on so pays for them to know whats going on with them. aAnd there may have been people like I would have that were planning to buy them to breed with their fish, I would have noticed before I bred them with my chilumba's though as they're a different shape but I would have been angry to find out I had brought something that was incorrectly id'd. Anna_&_Chris
how to tell the difference between the females though? to me females of chilumba and royal blue look the same, my female is really dark, pretty much black. and look to be the same shape to me as royal blue females... ? how do i tell the difference?
ryanjury
Thats the problem with peacocks, if you don't get them from reliable sources it is impossible to tell the difference, your female could be a royal blue red shoulder, maleri or any number of other females that the previous buyer brought from an assorted tank or a pure source who knows? Anna_&_Chris
the guy that i bought them from sed they were both the same type , when they bred the babies turned out to be the same as the father... they not brother and sister though... dam now im so comfused.. who is he who is she... aaaaaaaah my head. imagine how they feel when they dont know who they are they probably depressed  i would be
