tinytawnykitten
Hiya, my female (I assume) platy was dead this morning. She was very bloated and I had though she was pregnant and she had a molly hassling her for a while. When I scooped her out of the tank I looked closely and she had what looked like eggs coming out of her. I thought Platys were livebearers so I am confused. I have a community tank and I am dying for someone to breed but don't know where to start or what to look for. I was hoping she might have dropped some fry but it was not meant to be
Caryl
It is possible she was ready to give bith but the fry got stuck The fry can look like eggs if they were not fully developed at the time she aborted or started giving birth. tinytawnykitten
Thanks for that. I wondered if that was what it was. Are there any fish which breed in a community tank? How can I encourage them?
Guest
I'm pretty sure BNs will breed in a community tank and all livebearers will as well.
Caryl
Many fish will breed in a community tank. It is stopping the fry being eaten that is the problem.
