NPnewbie
I have a question that's sort of related to this...what's recommended...planted real plants? or real plants but not planted, the plants don't take root (So they need replacing) Might be a stupid questions but what the heck. andyman98
planted real plants.don't waste money buying more just to have them float around and then die.
Caryl
If real plants are planted and looked after correctly according to their individual needs, there is no need to replace them as they die. I haven't bought a plant for years - unless I saw one I didn't currently have and it appealed. Most of the time you should be throwing (or giving, or selling) live plants away as they grow so fast! NPnewbie
OK So it seems like planted real plants are prefered now then do I need to have special substrate i.e. not just gravel and stines.....secondly does that also mean I need to infuse inject CO2 into the tank as well? Thanks for any answers.
TeeCee
I have gravel substrate in all my tanks - 2 with and one without a UG filter. All plants seem to grow well (although the ones without the UG do seem to get along faster than the other two tanks). I also do nothing else to any of the tanks for the plants other than trim them - no additional fertiliser/CO2 etc - just good lighting and they seem happy enough.
