dude
anyone ever used bamboo inside their tank as ornament pieces, just wanna know what it would look like and if it would have any effect on the tank water quality(decaying pieces??) dont really wanna use the shipwreck and stuff they sell at lfs as i dont like the look, i want the tank to have a natural look and thought nice big maybe 8-10cm wide pieces piled up sideways would look good and create lots of hiding places for the fish (hollow parts would act like caves??) any ideas, what do you guys think???? yarimochi
Bamboo can look awesome in an aquarium if its done right. Bamboo itself it completelys safe and neutral if the wood is dried out and it is not a bright green. It is a porous wood so it requires some work to sink it or to hold it down. It is also an incredibly fibrous wood and so the cut edges and inside requires a light sanding with coarse then fine sandpaper to remove sharp fibres. It would make great caves as the hollowing has already been done for you and if you cut it in the right place, the end is blocked off. hope this helps. Glen
Im not speaking from my own experience here but I was talking to a guy who breeds BN catfish. he recons they love the stuff. He'd put a piece in his tanks and they'd hollow out the inside in a few days? I think that was going in green?
Caper
I'll be interested to hear how you make out with the bamboo. Somebody else tried it here, oh shoot sorry can't think of name at the moment...but he ended up removing it as it became mouldy. He was originally using it to put tubing in which if had worked out would have been a great idea! Caper
dude
not sure if ill be using it anymore, not much info and not sure how it will work out. i really wanna use it but it seems that people have used it and they all seem to have problems with it going mouldy or it breaks up and pollutes the tank too much, might give it a go in a empty tank with no fish in it to see what happens, will report back with the results when i get this going
