firefish
I'm going on holiday with my dad in Jan and we don't really know what we're going to do so I thought there might be locals on here (and non-locals of course) that could give me advice on what we could do. I'm not really into the high adventure stuff... walks could be good if they have a good view. We are going to Napier for 2 nights - I went there a year ago so seen marine world and the national aquarium (I actually went twice ) We will be going to Cape Kidnappers. Then we and my aunty and her two kids will be going to Lake Waekaremoana for two nights!! :-? I don't know how I'm not gonna get bored... if there are anything to do at the lake it has to be good for a nine year old.. Then we are going to gisborne for 5 nights. Any advice? evilknieval69
Great walk up to the old pa site on the papamoa hills, not far from tauranga. Also (if you are into mountain biking) on the other side of the hill from the pa walk is an awesome mountain bike park. Some sweet downhill and XC tracks, aswell as some technical skinnys etc. Awesome views too.
Cricketman
lake waikerimoana is GORGEOUS!!! if you hava kayak then go for a paddle round and look at teh petrified forest that is just below the surface, i would love to dive there one day, when i get my drysuit as it bloody cold lol, theres also a heap of cool jumps off teh rocks etc hehe, we kayaked/ camped round the whole lake for a week on my last course
firefish
Great walk up to the old pa site on the papamoa hills My parents just came back from their holiday and they did that walk! but why are you telling me about Tauranga? Are there any animal parks or fish places in Gisborne? Is ANIMAL KRACKERS PET PARK any good? My dad is a keen mountain biker so if there are any tracks it would be good to know about them. I would like to do golf or mini putt - is there any mini putt or cheap golfing in gisborne?
ryanjury
waikerimoana is nice, we tramped around it once and got some sort of nasty food poisoning (was laid out for a week) from one of the the huts though so boil the water/use water purification tablets
firefish
thanks for the warning 8) Unfortunatly since we're only staying 2 nights we won't beable to walk around the whole thing.
firefish
if you hava kayak Does that mean that I couln't hire them from some one there? Cos I would like to do some kayaking but not if it means buying a kayak...
Cricketman
no idea, we took our own, but if you can find a place that would hire them out, it would be well worth it.

ryanjury
lol its a shame you wont be tramping around it.. We only got half way before we all got evacuated with food poisoning etc, guess we should have used the purification tablets provided.. firefish
it is a shame cos if we did do the walk then atleast I would be able to say that I walked around the lake! I hope that the Kiwi House is still open - it could be interesting. Does anyone know if the national aquarium has changed in the last year?
