jolliolli
I syphon the sand about once a week with my water changes I find if i try and syphon off any crap of the sand i end up syphoning up the sand and it inevitably clogs the syphon Got a pic of your tank jolliolli? Depending on how i go in the weekend we might be hanging the MH lights this weekend so i'll see if i can take a pic once i've got them up. I suspect my diatom problem is related to light, (atm there i estimate there is only around 185W of light on a 400L tank), flow i need to increase this as well and maybe silicates
Fmxmatt
I'm only running about 140w on a 350litre. Could be lighting times maybe? My timer poo'd itself during the week and 2 39w T5's stayed on for just over 48 hours, there was quite a bit of golden diatoms on the sand after that. But also contributing was a lack of water change I think I modified my syphon because of the same reason

Fmxmatt
Ripped that "self starting syphon" flappy thing out because it was constantly jamming, and bought a hand type pump thing to start the syphon at the end of the hose.
