Fluffypants
Our female Siamese fighter has developed a lump on her side. It started out as a kind of opaque blue patch. Over the last few days it started to look like a pimple and began to protrude slightly. Today it has a red appearance as though part of her insides are coming out through the lump. It doesn't seem to bother her too much but our dwarf blue gourami has a much smaller red lump on the base of his dorsal fin. He is not looking so good and is probably on his way out. I've managed to get a couple of photos. The bottom one shows how far it protrudes. Can anyone tell me what it is and can it be treated? Caryl
Hard to tell without removing the mass and looking at it under a microscope. Sounds like a cyst. A cyst of what depends on what you see under the microscope. Most cysts seem to be non spreadable and no treatment is required. I think it will burst on its own then heal over. Keep an eye out for secondary fungal infections though and make sure water conditions are as good as they can be.
danilada
My mum's discus has a white pimple type lump on its gill, she has just left it, hasn't gotten better, but hasn't gotten worse either.
jn
Youre not havign alot of luck with your fighters fluffypants! Didn't you buy a blue one that did the same thing?!
Fluffypants
Good memory JN. The male fighter ended up with a prolapsed bowel after being terrorised by this female. We've since bought a 'tougher' male who can handle our girls but he still ended up with shredded fins on first introduction and then we separated them. This girl was the one who also jumped out of the tank and wasn't found for a couple of hours. She also managed to get herself wedged between the filter motor and the glass and had to be freed. We're having worse luck with dwarf gouramis! First one died from dropsy 3 days after purchase, second was attacked by the male betta, lost an eye and died, and the third died of unknown causes 2 days ago. This girl seems to be completely untroubled by the lump but we are keeping her isolated as a precaution and I'll keep the water pristine. Would love to know what it is though.
