wasp
Could be that if one is still small, it is not fully developed and sexually mature yet. Could try hand feeding perhaps? Use a long pair of tongs or similar so you don't have to put your hand in the tank.
wasp
Another thought also is that growth and health in cleaner shrimps can be affected by a flatworm that infests them, can be seen as dark blobs under the shell, mostly in the same section the legs come off. Fmxmatt
What if I sing to them? "I gave my love a chicken it had no bone........ Mmmmmm Chicken"
Fmxmatt
Well the singing seemed to work This morning I woke to find the larger one had molted and on further inspection, has the green on its belly Have also witnessed the Blue Tang, Yellow Tang and Starki Damsel all get a clean. Has anyone ever seen a clown be cleaned before? Or are they usually a bit different due to their slime coat?
reef
normally when they are sick clowns will go to a cleaner shrimp. Clowns are more interested in being in an anemoe than cleaner shrimps.
Fmxmatt
I agree, well somewhat anyway, as I dont have an anemonie... I do have a torch coral that they are harassing tho! Was just interested about the cleaners as the clowns hang out in the same area as the cleaners, and theres never been any interest between them
markoshark
normally when they are sick clowns will go to a cleaner shrimp. Clowns are more interested in being in an anemoe than cleaner shrimps. I've seen both of my clowns being cleaned. Is this a measure of "I have sick fish" or is this nothing to worry about. Admittedly the shrimp hangs around very close to the clowns and anenome. sooo..?"
Fmxmatt
I wouldn't think so marko, I think it would be safe to assume that the cleaners are going to clean any fish that'll go near them like they do in the wild. Doesn't nessersarily mean the fish is sick, its just that symbiotic relationship working. My cleaners have setup their cleaning station right next to my torch coral that my clowns live in
markoshark
hmm. Does this mean that clowns will also protect cleaner shrimp?
Fmxmatt
I guess its possible, my clowns protect my Firefish from the Damsel haha
Dixon1990
How big do cleaner shrimp get to?And would they be happy in a nano marine 25cm Cube?
markoshark
Don't you already have a CBS in there?
Dixon1990
Don't you already have a CBS in there? Are you talking to me? I dont even have a marine yet.
markoshark
hum, someone else has a similar size marine  Cleaner or CBS should be fine, although the CBS may not like having any tankmates in something that size
Dixon1990
just 1? I was thinking of making a tank for 2 of them.
Fmxmatt
What else were you planning on keeping in the tank? 2 would be fine, but you'd want to get them at the same time as a pair otherwise it may end in tears when 1 kills the other
wilson
i would do about 20 L- 40 L for a pair
Dixon1990
If i set the tank up i was planning on having only 2shrimp and maybe a coral?
wilson
unless you want to spend lots getting t5s i would get low light corals and use two t8s
Guest Anonymous
it would be cool to breed them has anyone in new zealand done that with a good % reach adult hood Nobody. Problem is the availability of Rotifers and Phytoplankton to feed the shrimps once they are released. The other major issue is their settlement times. It takes approx 6months before the shrimp will metamorph into a juve. There has been very limited success with this in the states.
