Dixon1990
Would a 91cm x 39cm x 30cm tank be alright for some african cichlids like electric yellows or neolamp. Pulchers?
ryanjury
You can do a pair (or what would turn into a colony of pulchers or brichardi). You could do a couple of jullies and some yellow's.. It would come down the temperment of the individual fish, I have heard of demasoni's being kept in tanks this small and working I think the cichlid-forum article recommends 90 x 45 x 45 for 12. I am considering sticking my colony of demasoni in a 3ft tank and seeing how they go because im sick of pulling the 540L tank down every weekend to catch holding females.. However I probably wouldn't recommend it as your tank is only 100L and you have nowhere else to put them if it goes wrong.. Go for a 4ft and your options increase I guess it depends if your willing to upgrade the tank later
Bananalobster
I have four electric yellows in my 3ft. Although the foot print is larger at about 45 x 45. They are happy and the females are always holding . You could always try it if it doesnt work its just an excuse to get a bigger tank  win win situation! ryanjury
Yeah yellow's are always good, I brought a bunch of fish off trademe once, turned up and got the shock of my life.. There was 4f 1m yellow's (breeding) a huge giraffe female (15cmish) and 2 male peacocks happily living in a 60 x 30 x 30cm tank next to this guys bed, have also heard of people keeping all sorts of things in 3ft tanks but probably wouldn't recommend it unless your willing to accept it may just be a grow out tank if things go bad and have breeding nets or spare tanks to rescue fish! Dixon1990
I might go for electric yellows maybe 3-4? Mainly because i know someone that breeds them and i can get them at a small size like 2cm. When they are still 2cm could they be kept with other fish like kribs or tetras? ryanjury
You could keep them with kribs/tetras its not recommended though, electric yellow's are one of the most peaceful africans I have seen them in some random setups doing fine, but they do prefer hard water with a high ph which tetras dont.. Dixon1990
what ph do the yellow like?
evilknieval69
http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_labido.php Once the yellows get realy big you may have to get a bigger tank or sell them. They can get pretty big. Demasoni are a good choice for a smaller tank. You could keep a group of 12 Dems in that 3 footer easily. 8)
Dixon1990
How do i raise the ph to 8.2?My tap water is 7.2. And for filtration how many lph would i need for a internal filter foir this size tank?
ryanjury
lol yeah I love the demasoni they're wicked yellow's do take forever to get very big... If you do want demasoni let me know will have a heap of them ready to go in a month or so Yellow's being rift lake african cichlids like a high ph and hard water They will adjust to lower ph's if they have to being so many generations off wild caught but most of us like to try and get the ph up there. Dixon1990
So how many lph would i need to filter this size tank? I have a 800Lph internal and a 600lph internal to use. Should i use both or just the 800?
ryanjury
Both The more filtration for any fish the better You don't NEED to raise the ph to 8.2 but you could stick some baking soda in to bring it up a bit Im sure all my tanks are just below 8 some probably a bit lower and the fish are all happy
Dixon1990
is there a gravel you can buy to raise ph?
ryanjury
Crushed coral, lime chip (make sure its pure), argonite (sp?), limestone rock, crushed oyster shell's in your filter...
Dixon1990
Could i keep these in here? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=125830513
ryanjury
Just read this reply, don't keep zebra's in a tank that small.. Well you could but I wouldn't stick anything but zebra's in there and expect some to get beaten!
Dixon1990
Could i have 2-3 Aulonocara Maleri and 2-3 electric yellow in this tank?

Dixon1990
Do you think 2 hoplos could go in this tank with a few electric yellows and or aulonocara maleri?
Dixon1990
I will be setting this tank up in the next week, COuld 4-5yellows and 4-5 Metriaclima callainos be kept in this tank until they are about 6-8cm?
ryanjury
Might be alright, watch the cobalts as they get bigger though, my big male is one of the bosses in my 540litre tank... lol always a good bet to stick fish that stay small (like demasoni) in smaller tanks But they should be ok as a grow out tank..
Dixon1990
What size tank would the cobalts need eventually?
ryanjury
Depends how much you like your other fish, zebra's are pretty nasty have had people get rid of zebras out of 6 foot tanks because they've taken over half of it.. But have also had people happily keep them in 3-4ft tanks its upto the fish I guess
Dixon1990
I think i might just stick with the yellows then, as i probably wont be able to upgrade in the next 2 years.
