hevalump
My plants are starting to get browns leaves, what could this be caused by? Would too much light (say over 12 hours a day) cause this ( I have bee n having my lights on for about 14 hours a day and havent had any algae problems) .... or aquarium salt (I add a small amount to my water)......... or are they crying out for fertiliser..... they were very healthy up until now and needed a trim back two weeks ago...... any thoughts? Kriber
If the light is of the right wavelength and intensity I don't think 14hrs would cause the problem. I heard some people grow their plants under 24hrs a day of light for faster growth (prob not a long term thing though). How much salt do you add? hevalump
I light we have in the tank is built in (its a aqua one ar620) ..... i add 1 tablespoon per 20 litres as directed on the packet........ they seem to have only begun to brown since i put the salt in...... so that might be the prob........... Caryl
I am no plant expert but I suspect the salt.
hevalump
yeah, im gonna stop with the salt to see what happens... the only reason im using a little bit of salt is because our tank is just at the tail end of cycling and i have heard it is good for helping with nitrite poisoning prevention and also to help ward of any sickness........... ill let you know what happens.... Caryl
A lot of people use a little salt in their tanks to maintain fish health without a detrimentaleffect on the plants but 1Tbs per 20 litres sounds a lot to me (but I know nothing about it). chimera
if you say "brown" as in yellow/brownish, its most likely due to a potassium deficiency in your water.
kim
brown on your plants could be 2 things 1 you have changed fish foods and are feeding them to much or 2 your tube is over 6months -1yr old, most tubes will still give light but they stop giving the good light after 6mt-1yr depending on how long you have your light on. so how old is your tube?
