Kezza
300lt tank, 405 fluval filtration, 300w Jagger heater, tank has cycled (all tests are stable and have been for over a week now...yay!) 6 x demasoni 5 x socolofi 3 x red top trewavasae 6 x Electric yellows all in the 3-5cm range and appear very happy. I have my eyes set on a gaggle of kadango and very much like the look of Fryeri (where might I find a good source of those critters?) but if the esteemed panel could perhaps give me a few other suggestions on some suitable tanks mates and just how many I'd be stoked....fairly newbie at this so apologies for the ongoing and "stupid" questions. thanks in advance. Freakyfish
What are the dimensions on your tank Not all 300 litre tanks are the same size and this can .limit your fish later Brad
vegemite
Wow - I'm setting up a malawi tank at the moment and that's almost identical to my wish list. Personally, after spending a lot of time browsing sites, I found www.malawicichlidhomepage.com - a theme that kept coming through with those guys is to have fewer species, but more of them. Otherwise you end up with what they call a bubblegum tank (too many colours and you don't know where to look. Theres an extreme example below - it's pretty full on. Anyway, it's all about what you want, but you've got a nice mix of colours in my opinion. Yellow, blue and a flash of red. What about bumblebees or red zebras although auratus or borleyi would be cool too. http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/aquainfo/hobbyist_gallery/hobbyist_gallery_toronto.html
ryanjury
personally I would stay away from Bumblebee's and auratus due to the size of your tank, although ive had no aggression problems from bumblebee's and I had a huge male (I did have no females with him which may have helped) they get huge and have a rep for being nasty as do auratus.. vegemite
There you go then - it really pays to study up on any new additions, in all the reading I'd done I never noticed that the bumblebee grows to 20cm:oops: . I guess how much aggression you have also depends on how much rockwork you have and like ryanjury said - your m/f ratio and your total number of fish. Red zebras are cool even if they aren't a true red, they'd make a nice contrast to your other species.

Kezza
thanks for the replies...appreciate it! After several conversations with forum members, Johannes & Lynn, I decided yesterday to add 7 borleyi (Kandango) and 7 greshakei (Ice Blue). They are only little fullahs but are getting on well with the others in the tank. Once the tank grows up I'll begin to thin out the population but for now it's fantastic and really enjoying this hobby. Johannes & Lynn's service and expertise was awesome throughout the trade and welcomed my 'stupid' questions....thanks guys, I'll be back!!! Kadango's can get big, but they will only pick amongst themselves. Just keep an eye on your water parameters for a couple of weeks, as of the introducing of 14 new fishies.
