Guest
Hi guys. I was just wondering what everyone thought the easiest fish to breed is (apart from livebearers).
HummingBird
Probably Convicts for egg layers, and White Cloud Mountain Minnows for egg scatterers.
Ianab
Agree on the Convicts and WCMMs. Kribensis and Bristlenose plecos are a couple of other that are easy to breed. Cheers Ian
coelacanth
neons, danios, angelfish, the list would just go on and on....
Guest
I always thought neons where hard to breed because of the eggs being light sensative.
ryanjury
Its all relative really, I would classify neon's as easy to breed, but hard to raise the babies, the fry are very hard to feed the therefore raise.. Well I guess they're not that hard to raise if you follow the instructions and have green water etc but to me its alot of effort.. To me african cichlids are very easy to breed and raise and sell, the mother looks after the babies until they can swim and eat they come out big and can if you want them too eat flake straight away! They dont require alot of water changes when they're young and they're certainly not fussy or sensitive (have stripped week old egg's and bagged them and sent them away and not one of them died) Thats easy in my books! I think its relative really, best best is to decide what fish suit your sizes and numbers of tanks and give some a go if you dont find them easy.. sharn
Agree with Ryan, I find discus easy to breed (and my BN trio still wont do it!) but its raising the fry thats the pain- too much work for me which is why i never let mine raise them past a few days free swimming. There are some people who think cons are hard to breed, and others who probably think arowana are easy to breed
MarkLB
I have a pair of BNs that have been easy to breed. All I need to do is wait until the fry are free swimming and then transfer them to a growout tank.....every 5-6 weeks
Ianab
White Clouds would have to be the easiest though.. about as difficult as guppys  Put some white clouds in a well planted tank, feed them and wait a while. Adrienne
I find siamese fighters easy to breed, but its time consuming work raising the fry
HummingBird
Yeah, I think what Cam meant by "breed" was the whole process, including raising the babies to adulthood. Another fish not mentioned is the Jewel cichlid, which is also (in my experience) insanely easy to breed. At one point I had a 4 foot tank with two pairs of breeding convicts in it and they'd each claimed half the tank as territory. I put four jewels in and they weren't allowed to deviate from the exact of the tank, the convicts were that controlling - but, after being in the tank for a few days, they actually spawned too, right there on the underside of a log in the exact middle of the tank. I sucked the convict and jewel eggs out and raised them all together, it was pretty cool. sharn, you say some people think convicts are hard to breed - have they ever even kept a male and a female together before? Seriously, I've never heard anyone say that before, the most common problem I hear is people not being able to stop them breeding. I work at Jansens, and even when we get them in at 4-5cm, they breed after like a day of being in our tanks.

Nicolette
I would say glowlight tetras as I am on my second spawning and I am a complete newbie and albino tetras have been pretty easy too. and neither are light sensitive and ate novatom from day 3 or so.
