Nicolette
Is it ok to use a 2in round pvc plumbing pipe in my community tank for my pleco to hide in? Is it toxic etc? I dont want to use a terracotta pot as I am struggling to keep my ph down at present. Thanks for any info.
Rockerpeller
some people use pvc pipe in saltwater tanks to prop up liverock to make it seem like there's more rock in the tank. don't see why it wouldn't work in a freshwater set-up for plecos. Chazza404
terracotta pots raise pH? i use both and they work fine, you can give them a scrub and pour some boiling water over it before you put it in your tank which will kill any nasties etc ive come across some hollow pieces of driftwood which were nice sized and gives them something to munch on; turns out mine (old pic) is the most popular type of wood in my catfish tank ^^ damn things have stripped it and eaten right through one side
Nicolette
Cheers for that. The Lfs lady told me that terracotta can raise ph and I actually have a supply of pvc pipe around as we are renovating so its just convienient. David R
I use PVC pipes in my tanks and have done for ages. I guess youre talking about offcuts of new pipe, not using old stuff??
Ianab
It's often used to carry the tap water to your tap, so yes.. it's 'food' safe 8) You can use aquarium silicone to stick pieces of pipe to a flat rock or piece of slate to hold them down. I guess youre talking about offcuts of new pipe, not using old stuff?? yeah its offcuts from new pipe.. lol. Not sure of the best place in the tank for it yet though. Under the driftwood etc. I dont really want to be able to see the pipe but would like to be able to see in it. What do you all suggest?
