candy
So we took the plunge and added some thing to the tank yesterday.... A cleaner shrimp! I think i have gone off fish. I just want lots of little critters. ( If any one has a hermit crab that needs a new home let me know) Did my tests and everything it fine.. Realy sick of the hydrometer thingi so going to get a refractometer thingi asap.. Everything looking good so far. Got some more cycled ( live) rock for sump and everything is looking happy. Plus i have brissle worms! My pepermint shrimp is lazy and sleeps/hides all day long and the corals are all out and being beautiful... * goes off to look at tank* p.s. what do i feed my shrimp? Can i feed them shrimp? or is that wrong ( bit like feeling human, human)
davidb
cool. the peppermint will be hiding. most shrimps are pretty shy except ghost shrimps and cleaners

reef
p.s. what do i feed my shrimp? Can i feed them shrimp? or is that wrong ( bit like feeling human, human) feed it fish food.most shrimps eat anything. I have 3 peppermint shrimps which are easy to breed and they eat anything. Ira
I still say it's unlikely to be a peppermint shrimp if you're talking about the one you caught here. It takes more than just a look at a little picture off the internet to identify a species that's caught WELL outside it's known habitat range in conditions well outside what it's supposed to be able to survive in. candy
Ira : I think you have the wrong person mate! I would never catch some thing and chuck it in my tank.... I did not catch it! I was given it with my tank... And it was out of a book! Thanks for ruining my day

wasp
Realy sick of the hydrometer thingi so going to get a refractometer thingi asap.. Good plan. First few years of reefing I had one of those swing arm thingi's. I calibrated it & it was wrong so I put a mark on it at 1.025 so it would still work for me. This worked for a while but one time I noticed the fish looking stressed & breathing real quick. This carried on several months & I just couldn't figure it out. Eventually I had done every concievable check so decided the only thing left was to get a refractometer. Found out the salinity was at 1.032, the swing arm must have gradually shifted. Anyhow, lowered the salinity the fish much more relaxed and the whole tank looked better.
