suspended algae in tanks pleeeese help

I having a problem with a tank that I cant solve

Its an algae bloom of some kind but its suspended within the water the glass is clear and so are all the ornaments

there are live plants in it

allthe levels within the tank are nil but the water is so green that you cannot see the back of the tank

the person who owns the tank is on brightwater water so i think its well or just town supply

the water that they are putting into the tank is free of phosphates and nirtrates etc.

but they are having to clean the powerhead and the filter out 2 to 3 times aday or it stops working due to the algae build up

they can do a water change in the morning and watch the tank go greenbefore their eyes during the day

I have suggest phosphate removers water clarifiers daily water changes algacides

its killing there fish aswell

And short of stripping the tank and starting again i am not sure what to do

any advice or products i kan try would be greatly aprreciated

is the tank in direct sunlight? if it is, shift it out of the sunlight. or they can use a UV filter which will kill floating algae such as greenwater etc. another alternative is load the tank with plants which will use up all the nutrients in the tank, which in turn will starve the algae. I'm not sure about this last one, as it works for my tank, but it may not work in theirs. someone else here should know.

Can also try fully covering the tank so no light gets in, for a few days. this won't harm the fish. can someone confirm this, as i'm sure i read this method somewhere on this forum.

no there is nodirect sunlight on the tank they had a uv steriliser on it and that hasn't helpd

I've had more success simply filtering the algae out. Throw a bunch of filter wool over the intake of the filter and then rinse it out daily for a couple days.
