bulldogod
Is there a easy way to do this, just spent sooooooo long trying to catch a fish that I had sold, tank is 4x2x2 and the fish was damn fast and had heaps of room to get away.
ryanjury
I have always said I was going to buy/make a net that was the whole width of my tank so that I could just seperate the fish off with it and then chase them around the divided bit with smaller nets.. Short of that use 2 of the biggest nets you have take all the rocks out and try and be patient I think I spend more hours trying to catch fish than actually enjoying them especially when you want to sell one out of a tank! There are a few instructions for fish catchers I haven't tried them and they will catch any or all fish so unsure how useful they will be.. Also have heard to try while fish are asleep but ive found they freak out and I was always worried about them damaging themselves on rocks etc. Might be something for you to try Good luck! HummingBird
Have one (preferably big) net stationary and use another net to chase the fish into it. Works perfectly.

Gannet
ok i dont have any pics, but ill try and describe it. get a 2.25L coke bottel (or simaler) cut it about a 1/3rd of the way down from the top, and then invert the top back inside the rest of the bottel (depending on the soze of the fosh cut the end of top (the bit with the screw) use a hole punch ont the end (where the to cut bits meet) and use twistie ties to hold to gether. make a few little holes all over the bottel for water movement, put food inside bottel (pleco chips work well) fully submerise the bottel...WAIT... watch the from a distance... more than likely you will catch more than 1 fish, thats why i use the big bottel so there is more water to move in... after you catch some put them in a bucket till you get the one you want and them wamo you have net free catching. the reason i say put the others in a bucket is so that you dont keep catchn the domint fish... hope this helps... if a mod wants me to ill make a CC of this under DIY

herefishiefishie
That does sound good. I have seen traps in books. I go the same way as Wilson & Eric. Take down 1/2 the tank, I use one big net 15inch, use a smaller net to herd them. Frenchy
GZ_Loach
i use a big 40cm net.
HummingBird
A way to make fish easier to catch is to feed them from a net as well - I do this when I feed live food a couple times a week. This way the fish are used to the net and even swim into it sometimes
smidey
i dont have a big net so i pull all bits out of tank & chase em into the corner. using two small nets helps rather than one
Foxglove
I just read in an old Aquatic World mag (thanks Eddie!) of using a plastic bag with holes punched into it. Take a large clear plastic bag, a piece of wire (coat hanger thickness). Use a hole punch to put holes in the bag. so water will go in and out but the fish can't. Thread wire all round the top and twist ends to make a handle to hang on the tank. Starve the fish for a day, put favorite food in bag and tip the opening so that the fish have access. This should mean that the fish will go in without having to drag a net through precious plants. I must try it. Now where's that hole punch? David R
get a 2.25L coke bottel (or simaler) cut it about a 1/3rd of the way down from the top, and then invert the top back inside the rest of the bottel (depending on the soze of the fosh cut the end of top (the bit with the screw) Good idea, except that most 'real' cichlids won't even fit in a 2L coke bottle, let alone through the narrow opening at the top!
