The Great White Hand
Hi What is your preferred dry food for Discus? I the dry food I use is: JBL Gala Flake, Tetra colorbits, JBL Nova-bits, JBL Daph, JBL nova tabs. What about Wardley's, Haraki? Is there something that is the best? Gannet
sounds like you have a good mix of dry food, but what about frozen food, and live food?
dimebag
i feed JBL Gala Flake, Tetra colorbits, shrimp pellets, and the occasional bloodworms and brineshrimps(frozen) discus are hungry constantly and i reckon they will eat whatever i put in there

The Great White Hand
Thanks for your advice! It seems, I'm probably giving my discus a reasonably good diet of the dried food available here. Gannet, I use frozen bloodworm, and a frozen blister pack called "Schlingmann's discus-fit" (Turkey heart, krill, mysis, Artemia Salina, white mossi larvae, crayfish, spinach, bio-algae, spirulina, minerals and vitamins) bought from Redwood Aqautics. However, they mostly eat the dried food so thats why I wanted your opinions. I mostly, use the dried food because since I've introduced the discus I seem to be battling phosphates a bit (.2 - 1.2 ppm). Faran
....a frozen blister pack called "Schlingmann's discus-fit" (Turkey heart, krill, mysis, Artemia Salina, white mossi larvae, crayfish, spinach, bio-algae, spirulina, minerals and vitamins) bought from Redwood Aqautics.... As I'm always on the lookout for excellent frozen beef heart mixtures I contacted Redwoods and was told this - Schlingmann's discus-fit and Baby discus-fit was Van Gervan frozen Discus food that we use to import. Unfortunately there is no where in NZ for us to have our food irriadated and our last shipment of frozen foods was destroyed my MAF ! therefore no more........ So enjoy your Schlingmanns while it lasts!
The Great White Hand
Hi BlueandKim I'll have to use it more sparingly, maybe a treat for when they're good, but, when are discus not good?! Since I'm now without my "Schlingmann's" are there any commercially available frozen discus mixes you would recommend. Regards, TGWH
Faran
I use a standard "Discus Tucker" from Biosuppliers in Auckland. It's good stuff, but a bit too coarse for feeding young fish. I suppose it has the benefits of not going through radiation to get imported, either
HummingBird
Discus tucker is also good because it has garlic in it, which helps protect against parasites (which discus are apparently prone to?)
The Great White Hand
Thanks Guys! Biosuppliers only wholesale, "Discus Tucker". Will follow this up with John at Organism. Regards, TGWH
Faran
Yup, that's correct. You'll need to buy it from your local dealer. I was just letting you know the make and model
