Dixon1990
I have a Small 39cmx18cmx18cm tank sitting around and its annoying me, so i thought i would set it up and get some fish in it. Could i keep a small school of neon tetras or cardinal tetras in this along with 2 small BN's?

evilknieval69
Yep, trio should be sweet. You'll have eggs in no time, then you will need another tank or three
Dixon1990
COuld i put anything else in there with them? Like a few cardinals?
evilknieval69
I wouldnt, but its up to you. I suppose you could if you wanted, but killies will do best by themselves. IMO, i would just chuck in a couple BN or something and three killies. sweet setup

Dixon1990
I wasnt actually planning on breeding them for a while if i decide i do i will remove the BN's.
caserole
Sorry to put a pock in but it is my job... Fundulopanchax nigeriatum gardneri or gardneri nigeriatum is no longer a valid name, it's changed to Fundulopanchax nigeriastus. In saying that the tank would be perfect for them, they're a really nice killi.
Dixon1990
Thanks. DO they like a planted tank, and do they prefer gravel or sand?

caserole
Dixon wroteDo killies prefer gravel or a sandy substrate? DO they like a planted tank? That question is to general as there are many types of Killies. As for F. nigerianus they would prefer a planted tank gravel or sand substrate does not matter. However if you were breeding them then they would be perfectly happy in an unplanted tank with only a sponge filter and spawning mop, it's also easier to keep clean. An ideal set up allowing for both (nice looking tank and spawning)with in the tank size mentioned would be a gravel substrate with grass type plants around the sides/back leaving most of the tank open. This will leave space in the middle for a spawning mop which they will prefer to spawn in over grass type plants, eggs will also be found just under the gravel surface and could be collected during a gravel siphon. Hope that answers you question.
Dixon1990
Im not actually planning on breeding too soon, I dont have any spare raising tanks at the moment so its not realy an option at the moment.
Alan
When I told you that name Wok it was probably a valid name. They keep on changing them. I suppose they have to have something to do.
