I've got a grand total of one at the moment. I'm on the look out for more.

I remember Eddy at Petworld used to get some really nice ones in years ago... they don't seem to come in that often now. Everyone's either after acro's or the basic soft corals and euphyllias.

Time to bring back the faviids!

I'll get a pic up tomorrow of my one at the moment.

A couple more which are a little harder to get hold of... legally ;)
OOPS! Shades of Eric Bourneman! HMMMM.......

But

It's very rare, but I'll agree with you Layton! :D (Not about breaking the law or taking corals you not allowed, but about acros).

I think acros are overated! Easy enough to keep alive, and to grow, but to really have the colours sparkling, everything has to be just so... It's always a challenge keeping everything right.

But having said that, some of those LPS you pictured are not totally easy either.

I've got one that you pictured. I was looking for this exact coral for years, with no joy, then one day I dropped into Hollywood Fish Farm, and there it was, beautiful colours and only 60 bucks! Couldn't believe my luck I had to take it before someone else got it!

I always been keeping my eye out for some of those others but as has been said, they are rarely seen. Not sure hoe fast they grow either, I've had mine for around 3 years & it's not a whole lot bigger than when I got it. Not sure if that's normal, or my poor husbandry?

Anyway, here it is, on the right of the picture. One day I'll get a pic of the whole thing.

BTW as a point of interest, those 2 corals can live next to each other touching, and no bad effects or fighting at all.

Yeah, some acro's are easy, others are fickle.

Some LPS are easy, some are harder to keep at their best than some acro's

LPS brown out just like acros do.

I think their structure is a lot more interesting than many acro's too. Especially some of the Agariciidae corals.

NOT BORING!!!

Nothing is a better feeling than great looking acros, it's the pinnacle of the hobby, as you have personnally experienced PuttPutt! :D

But there is something to be said for having easier care stuff that will still look good when we let nutrients build up too much, or make some other gaff. Also some softy tanks can look pretty awesome, they are usually better in real life than in a pic, because of the movement.

But you seem to grow stunning acros with ease, as well as you various other types of corals, all good for you :D

Watching your tank thread BTW! :D

I agree Wasp, there are some stunning softie and LPS tanks around, as good looking as any acro tanks.

Some people, Reef, cracker, yourself manage to keep nice examples of all 3 types, but there requirements in most cases seem too incompatable.

favites is just the genus name for closed brain though. most don't look mearly as impressive as the one in wasps tank, or the ones posted earlier in this post. the ones at hollyone when i was there last were completley green, have they got different colored ones now reef

Yes went & had a look, you are right Rockerpeller it's the exact same coral. Pretty faded but otherwise in excellent health, I felt like buying it! There is another similar brain but not such a nice colour.

When I saw it in the shop I realised that was about the size of mine when I bought it, so in fact mine has grown quite a lot, probably trebled in size, I just hadn't noticed as it happened slowly, amazing how things creep away on you!

See any other nice brains let me know! :D

Wasp, I saw that one when I was up in Auck. last week, before it ended up at Hollywoods.

I've only got one at the moment. Don't know exactly what it is, possibly an favities, acan, or maybe favia hard to say, I haven't really had a good close look at it.

It's one of those corals i've picked because I think it has "potential". I think it might end up a purplish colour, at the moment it sort of a muted purple / grey / brown color

The pic's crap (i've tried to sharpen it a bit), but it's in a difficult spot to capture.

Hmmm, not quite what I'm looking for but as you say it may surprise, but I'll pass for now.

Surprised you didn't snap that brain up when you saw it, it's a lovely little piece, if I didn't have one I would have absolutely taken it.

If you did want it I'll be happy to assist if need be though.
