Aquarium Dude
I have just planted 3 valisneria plants, these were fairly big at about .5m. Now the are sort of lying down, the leaves have folded and the tips are very near being in the gravel. Is this normal and will it improve? Kiwi Girl
What kind of ferts are you using as they tend to be sensitive toward some ferts that can cause them to melt.
bli
The same sort of thing happened when I first got twisted val a couple of months ago, the orginal plants withered away but new growth came back within a couple of days. Unfortunately I hadnt done my homework on these plants and as Kiwi Girl mentioned, an overdose in fertz (flourish)caused the plant to completely melt off! Afrikan
Overdose in ferts will definately knock plants off.. the leaves majorly melt.. I learnt by that mistake a while back

carla
Could it be that there is too much copper either in your fertiliser or your water supply (lukewarm water from the copper hotwater cylinder)? We tried to kill snails one day with copper sulphate and while most plants are unaffected, the vallisneria started yellowing and dying. Looked very similar to yours actually. We rescued it by immediate water changes when we noticed (about 2 days after we put the stuff in), and although most leaves died it recovered and grew new leaves (with snails still alive!!). It was, however, an established tank with good root systems. Not sure what would have happened if they would have been newly planted. Aquarium Dude
We dont have a hot water cyclinder, we have an instant gas heater. I suppose it may have copper in it??????????????
