Yeah it is simple supply and demand.. Alot of people walk into a pet shop and buy the pretty blue fish or the pretty yellow one.. :)

Although a few of us would buy these if they showed up the majority of people may not.. Or they may not even be allowed in the country

Not MAF's fault, Just looking after whats in NZ. Its irresponsible fish owners that are to blame.

so many nice fishes overseas and they never had major problems with their water ways.

Just quickly off the top of my head to give an example,

Aussie- Tilapia, convicts

SE Asia-Flowerhorns

USA- Peacock Bass{cichla}

I am pretty sure the blue ones are on the rare side too.

Frenchy :D

Blame MAF!! so many nice fishes overseas and they never had major problems with their water ways. All we can do is admire them aquariums somewhere else distant

There are many many cases where fish have been moved into another habitat and things go bad

Talapia are a major problem here in Australia

Red Devils survive in a creek near Coffs Harbour where the temp drops fairly low below 20 and they still survive there

Fish can tolerate a wide range of conditions and its this that worries quarantine stations

As Frenchy said Cichla are now wild around Florida

I might not agree with some of the decisions but overall it is a good thing
