Dixon1990
Are there any other ways of sexing them?
Freakyfish
Vent sexing them is the only reliable way carefully holding your fish upside down have a look at its vents near the anal fin Males will have 2 same size vents while females will have 1 larger then the other Male oo Female Oo Brad
ryanjury
Yeah that is a reliable way.. Or else just picking out the females as they hold lol Generally you can go by black fins and good egg spots like the one in your pic I would say more likely a male but bare in mind that it could be wrong... Caryl
How big is it? I wonder if the other inhabitants will survive once it grows.
Milet
The yellow is in my tank and is sweet with all the other fish. It's about 13cm+

herefishiefishie
Vent sexing is the best way. A guess.... which is worth nothing really in this case, is a male. Frenchy
Caryl
A lot depends on the nature of the individual fish, what they are with, and the order in which all the fish were added. They are not classed as "community" fish and should not be in one. I hope Milet you don't get up one day to find carnage in your tank. Milet
I hope so too caryl, but i doubt it, it's probably the most peaceful fish in the tank, apart from the severums. It spends most of its time in its cave.
herefishiefishie
Electric yellows are probably the most docile of the mbuna. I have seen them in mixed tanks. Usually if there is just one, most other fish are of a good size, all should go well. Touch wood  Frenchy
Milet
Touch wood indeed. All fish are about the same size
Caryl
Most of mine were fine but one was a real stroppy lad and terrorised many of the other fish.

Milet
Caryl u got me worried about my fish lol now im tossing up the idea of selling the yellow or trading him for something else
ryanjury
Dont worry about it.. some people get all hung on about what can and cant be kept together i think you've got a mix that may work.. Obviously thats all depending on the temperment of the individual fish if its working dont worry about it just keep an eye on them as you do with all cichlids things can get nasty..
