Milet
Hey everyone, going to be having more angel fish fry soon and possibly kribensis and no doubt the guppies will squirt some fry out too Was thinking about buying a Microworm Culture off trademe. (http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.asp?id=92756634#qna) Is it worth buying for my fry? Or is there a easier way to do it. I used brine shrimp once for my axolotls but that was years ago and i cant remember how to do it. Any Advice? Thanks heaps
carla
I like my microworms. Together with the daphnias they provide good food for all my fry. However I found they are more effective in a bare bottom tank so the fry can actually see them squirming around rather than them digging into the gravel to die there. Although some will be eaten while they fall to the ground, most will actually end up at the bottom of the tank.
Foxglove
Yeah, I like microworms too! I find them great for fry and also the middle ground swimmers, like harlequins and shy tetras. The culture is good value - as you can divide them immediately, to end up with two or three running. I like to keep a back up. I feed them with porridge oats mixed with water and active yeast. Go for it!
Janelle
I've just started my first microworm cultures which I bought from trademe. I don't have lids for the containers I'm using so I just put cling wrap over them with a few fork holes. Now when we get home from work it's kind of like walking into a bakery... alanmin4304
I find them very good. I set them up in 2 litre icecream containers with the sides roughened with sandpaper and keep them at different stages so there is always some available. Not as good as brine shrimp for food value but good as a backup and variation in food. I have four going at present.
