SilverBlade86
My 3 foot tank has a serious case of condensation. The heater is not even turned on at all! The lid and sides of the tank are totally soaked. Any way I can fix this? On a side note, I finally planted my tank today. Waterplantz on TradeMe has good deals, bought his starter pack for $20 and had more than enough plants.
yarimochi
Does the lid on the tank have hinges so it opens like a door? If it does, try to slip a wedge in between so that air circulation is maximised. If not, leave the lid off completely at night if this is practical for you tank. This will generally help alot with condensation as it usually builds up in enclosed areas above the tank. The light on top also contributes to water loss. SilverBlade86
I dont dare to leave my lids opened, I'm quite afraid of my fish committing hara kiri from jumping out of the tank. Any other solutions?
whetu
Why is the condensation a problem? My tank has condensation all over the top glass, the water just turns to droplets and drops back into the tank. Do you mean that you have a wooden lid on your tank and that's what's getting soaked? In that case, put a sheet of glass on top of the tank so the water will condense on that instead. Of course, if you take off the lid the water will just go into the air and you'll end up having a damp room and having to replace the water that evaporates from your tank. I'm surprised you have so much evaporation though if you're not using a heater.
SilverBlade86
Well, its really more of a convinience issue. The lid itself is made of glass, as I'm lazy to build a wooden one to put ontop of it. So everytime I open it up to feed the fish my hands, the side of the tank and the floor gets wet. Just trying to fix that.
GZ_Loach
tilt the glass so that the corner is pointing down towards the tank when you open it
Adrienne
Better that there is condensation on the lid than evaporation. The floor will probably get wet anyway if you have to keep putting water back in the tank. If you salt the water evaporation is a bigger pain in the neck than condensation anyways. jude
Cut a small triangle off one corner of the lid and feed the fish through that
SilverBlade86
Already have that, its just I prefer to scatter food around the place. That way all fish get a chance to eat without the bigger or more aggressive ones eating all the food. As I said its just a convinience issue, just seems a pain. 8)
