SilverBlade86
Got my first hara kiri BN today. There was a tiny 1cm gap where the airline comes out of the fish tank, and the BN must have jumped out through there. (was a baby BN). However, the BN was slightly larger than 2-3cm ish, so how did it managed to squeeze itself through? I dont see how a BN could have jumped through it. Any thoughts on how I can prevent this? I've put back the proper lid instead of just a sheet of plastic just to be safe.
davidb
they can climb i have heard... using their suckers- perhaps this is what happened?
Adrienne
I lost a couple or several before someone posted on this what happens. Apparently they go flying up the inside of the tank sucking away furiously and straight out the top.
Milet
yeah one of mine climbed its way out of a ice cream container while i was transporting fish
carla
They definitely suck themselves out of the water rather quickly. Have watched some babies do that in a bucket with very little water at the bottom, they came over half the height of the bucket until they gave up. In a 3/4 full one they would have definitely sucked themselves over the top...

Keri Anne
They can jump too, scary when they jump from the net in your hand to under another tank stand.
SilverBlade86
Happened today, but no one was around. No one could have seen it anyways, it climbed out the back. Anyways, the annoying part about it was I read about it somewhere in the forums, but didnt really believe it, so I didnt take any precautions. Now I know better.
GZ_Loach
its happened to me, now have a fully sealed tank 8)
HummingBird
I've lost bristlenoses this way too, but usually I've only had them jump out when they've been stressed (eg. they're new to the tank, the water parameters are off, etc). But then again, maybe the ones I've got are just unadventurous.
SilverBlade86
I think tomorrow I'll lower the water levels in it a little. Dont want more mini climbers. Unlike hobbits they probably wont survive the climb.
GZ_Loach
have your filter as high as possible to put them off aswell
Faran
I put a load of medium to large BNs in a half full 60L plastic container (the ones you can buy from the Warehouse) on the fish room floor and walked in the next morning to find half of them on the floor. Turns out the heater was off and they didn't like the temps going up and down. Anyways, I picked them up and plucked off the hair and put them back in the water to find that all but one were still alive. Not my first time finding BNs on the floor hours or even a day later and they still survive.
