Afrikan
Hi liam There have been a few Aros around for the kind of price, so would say it is a common price asked... What size tank do you have if you were to buy it?

Afrikan
While the Aro is relatively still small, but I would go 8ft plus for an Aro long term...

sharronpaul
I reckon to set up an 8' tank with a decent filter, heaters and lights would be about $1500 plus a stand plus your fish. This is assuming $800 for the tank (for a new or newish one). I built my 6' that our aro is in (he's now maybe 45-50cm, nearly ready for a bigger tank), got the glass for free so tank cost just a tube of silicon, but stand/paint/fittings cost $350, gear (filter (AR1200), lights, heaters) $320. The filter is a bit marginal, really need two. For something like an 8', I would go for an aquis 2400 (or equiv other brand) and another smaller canister. Our aro tends to freak out if there is too much light, so a pair of 4' twin flouros should work well ($100 each) and you'd want maybe 3 or 4 300w heaters at say $30, plus protectors (when they get big, they can smash glass heaters). You could do it all on a budget if you DIY'd, but for a turn-key system, the above would be the way I'd do it.
Afrikan
Yeap Our 8ft tank cost us $900 inclusive of stand (a real steal).. double thickness 10 ml bottom to.. beautiful job, made from a top knotch professional tank maker. Tank prices and stands will vary from place to place... We have 2 x Aquis 2400 external filters running on the tank, excellent filtration.. We have 4 x 4 foot lights on the tank, however, this isn't an Aro tank, noticed what sharonpaul said, their guy doesn't like too much light... Not sure if that is a typical Aro trait? Then there is substrate, depending on what sort you want to go with, prices vary. Heaters, we run 2 in the tank at the moment, soon to be a third added. Roughly it would cost.. break down... 4 x Lights = $400 Heaters x 3 = $111 2 x 2400 Aquis Filters = (special was run on them).. $560 for both... however this was with promotional special running... Tank and Stand = $900 $1971.. for the above items.... Cost us well over $2000 inclusive of substrate and fish... So that is just a rough guide... Would differ from person to person on what they spent.
