stimpy29
im just setting up my 4ft tank and was wondering if you could use carpet under your tank instead of polystyene ? has any one else done this? is there any other fishy people in taranaki? Wok
you could... but I would advise against Main reason being that the carpet would rot if you spill water on it... not so good if your tank sprang a leak either.
stimpy29
good point , but wouldnt the same thing happen with polystene ? if it got too wet wouldnt it fall to bits?
Alan
I have used poly on almost all my tanks with no problems It doesn't break down as you suggest. Ever seen the flotsam on the shore line??
me love fishy
I would stick to polystyrene and make sure you get a good thick piece
Whiskas
Also a glazier friend of mine said that carpet can sometimes have bits of sand or other grit that, with the weight of the tank, rub against the glass creating small scratches which create a weak point in the glass. Make sense? I prefer poly, a good way to recycle it
