Stella
When doing water changes on my African tank I just hauled the garden hose through the window. Easy. Mmm, it is, much better than lugging buckets, but rather annoying if there is only one of you and you have to run a stupidly long course to get between the tap and the tank. Especially if you did something dumb and the water has to go off RIGHT NOW as it is currently cascading onto the carpet... yet again. Still, yay for hoses and mains pressure Stella
Caryl
I use one of those trigger gun things on the end so no running back and forth.
me love fishy
IMHO I think Christchurch water is too cold to put into my tank from the garden hose outside which is why I prefer to get the temperature closer to the tank temperature, a few degrees cooler would be fine, but our water is really cold, like been in the fridge cold. Caryl
So is ours as it is artesian. The Africans didn't seem to mind the sudden temp or pH change and would swim in the current from the trigger gun - and boy was it some current!
me love fishy
of course the other main advantage with this pump is that you can also siphon the tank water out simply by twisting the bottom of the pump and turning on the kitchen tap, no more buckets yay
HummingBird
To siphon water I normally just run the siphon hose out the window/door and into the garden - more nitrates for the garden, less for the fish
