JK
Hey everyone, just resetting up my tank as i haven't had the space for a while but finally i do. But anyway, its a 24 by 12 by 12 inch tank and I'm wondering what filter I should use on it. It has a UGF but I've been thinking about also adding an external overhanging filter or internal pump filter. Which of these are more preferred nowadays and what is recommended? thanks in advance for your advice
suemack
hi EVLGTZ and welcome I use aquaclear filters (hang on the back) in my tanks and find them reliable, very easy to clean and maintain. Haven't had any experience with canisters so can't comment on them. sue
Matthew
An internal canister filter obviously takes up more tank space, therefore I would suggest an out of tank filter. Also internal filters are a lot more bother to clean. ultimately the choice is yours but I would recommend an external filter.
Caryl
Welcome EVLGTZ. Everyone has their own preferences but I would agree with suemack on this - an AquaClear.
JK
well thanks for your comments. I've always been a fan for the external overhanging filters like the aqua clear as I love the sound of the water goin back into the tank, and yeah they are much easier to clean. However a few of the shops I've been visiting have put me off them saying they are old school and not used by mnay people nowadays...hmmm
Caryl
They might be old school but they work! Mine has been going for years with never any problem. No expensive bits to break and replace, easy to see when it needs cleaning and so easy to actually clean. I have a Fluval 404, Eheim wet/dry 2229 and an AquaClear 500 and the only one that hasn't given any trouble is the AquaClear - and it is many years older than the other two! The shop just wants to sell you something more expensive.
JK
yeah thats what I thought but they were about the same price anyway. Went out to Hollywood Fish Farm in mt Roskill this arvo, all good. Picked up an Aqua One dble tube light and external filter
