ryanjury
lol nah i didn't buy them as royal blues either And I know what red shoulders are I seem to have alot of them all males though.. I brought mine from their as aulonocara Sp And they look like yours..
herefishiefishie
I brought mine from their as aulonocara Sp Oh well, at least they got the genus, just have to get the shops to work on species & location now. The joys of peacocks is that they are very hard to ID. Females impossible. If NZ has a limited number of species, it will narrow it down alot, or more than likely its just a hybrid. Afrikan
And the problem with some places is, when they get the peacocks in from the suppliers, some shops have mixed them!! So it's impossible to know what females are belonging to what! Arrrrgggh   That's why I prefer to order them in and collect them bagged OR buy from a shop who is set on keeping them in seperate tanks. Tropheus
You so right Afrikan. Thats the only way to do it when obtaining peacocks. About time someone has common sense
ryanjury
lol yeah thats usually my policy if they've got mixed peacocks then I wont get them or if I dont know what the male is by looking at him.. But these guys looked cool and I actually expected they were both males and would look cool in a display tank so I got them was half hoping they were not hybrids but half leaning towards that from looking around on the net but its cool they wont be bred from or sold as anything unless I can id them
herefishiefishie
The joys of cichlids & inexperienced lfs/suppliers..... NZ really does need some Cichlid geeks in the supply/ wholesale areas to sort it out. Frenchy
kylefish02
ye i aint using him for breeding.I see some suppliers have proper rubin red or whatever but real expensive by the time they reach the stores will be around $180 a pair . Theres also a new type called sumthing block or sumthing but same price. kyle
Afrikan
Yeah the other on the list are Dragon Blood Peacocks, really nice fish to! Rudolph happened to bring me some for xmas and birthday
herefishiefishie
Dragon Blood Peacocks Where are the proper names? :-? I mean unless it has one & they are new in the country, I would guess that to be another Asian peacock. The name sugests that too. Frenchy
Afrikan
 They are new into the country it seems... haven't found too much on them on the internet, only a big Aquatic place in the UK seems to have anything on them... So hoping to get some feed back on them... They are a very nice fish all the same
Afrikan
And the particular supplier who has them, doesn't supply the Sci names.. so yeah hmmm :-?
herefishiefishie
If they import them all as that & people keep them seperate & don't confuse them. Be good in a way to have something new. At least being on a UK site is a silver lineing Frenchy
Afrikan
Definately 8) My hubby ordered 10 in for me as soon as they were on the list, picked them up as soon as they reached the shop floor (still bagged) and we have the dominant male in with 5 females in a whole tank of their own.. nothing worse than mixing Peacocks, the only Peacocks we have mixed are males only and in the display tank for display purpose. The breeders are another story.
herefishiefishie
Cool, I have done exactly the same in my peacock days. Gee I go through some different types lol. On the mbuna & a couple of Altolamprologus at the moment. Put a pic up when the male is bigger, be cool to see. I imagine them to be like a rubin red but better? Afrikan
 Sounds like it! Here is a pic I found of the Dragon Bloods.. my dominant male is already colouring up like this big guy...
Afrikan
Oh except nowhere near as coloured yet, as still young, so should be interesting to see coloured up in the flesh! (he is getting there tho, the flash of colour he is displaying is just beautiful)
Tropheus
Got five Dragon bloods the other day and 4 Ruben reds. Pretty cool. Heard that the Dragons are Hybribs. But havent confirmed that yet.
herefishiefishie
I would say they are hybrid... Frenchy
Afrikan
Yeah I noticed on an overseas site about the thought of Hybrid, but there is not confirmation whether they are or aren't (yet)..
