Hazzard
Having kept a fish only system for a while i decided to set up a seperate coral tank with a light fish population.I would like to get a majestic angel but have heard conflicting stories about there reef compatability. I would also like to add a copperbanded butterfly. Has anyone out there had many problems with these fish in a reef tank?
reef
copper band is hard to keep, unless you have only a few fish as they are to slow/shy. Majestic couls be ok if you have mainly acropora, however will eat mushrooms and sometimes leathers, also they grow big so they need to be in a five foot tank min. I decide to remove my majestic as he was growing too big and started to eat my mushroom.
Hazzard
Thanks reef, i thought as much about the angel. Still quite keen to get the butterfly cause the system will be very lightly populated.
Hazzard
When have most people added there anemone to there tanks? Am i better to put him in first and let him find the spot he wants?
rossco
How long has the tank you are intending to put the anemone in been established? They need stable, high quality water to do well. Ideally with good flow (turbulent) and lighting. Even in tanks with apparently good water quality anemones put their toes up or into something mechanical. Don't worry about anemones finding there spot - they will keep on shifting, floating, walking over corals, until they find a good spot for themselves. Usually this is the furthermost spot from where we picked.
Hazzard
Theres obviously no good time to introduce one as they will trample as they please! The tank will be set up with good lighting and excellent water flow but trial and error seems to be way to go.
