Plant Questions

Hello Everyone,

I've just decided to make a 'planted' tank and i have a few questions so any help would be much appreciated.

1. What plant ferts do you use if any?

2. How would a moonlight system with LEDs effect the plants?

3. Is it possible to drown fish with too much CO2?

Some pictures of other people's tank would also be much appreciated. :P

thanks in advance

1. I use my personal mix of PMDD aquatic fertiliser for micro and macro plant nutrition

2. Moonlight wouldn't really affect them aslong as it's not too strong, plants do need a night cycle.

3. Yes, once 02 drops below a certain saturation the fish will die. However, through CO2 injection you can reach during the day over 100% 02 saturation which will help tide them over through the night. Gotta be careful though, often in the mornings before the lights come back on my fish hang near the top for 02. Just waiting till I get a pH controller with solenoid which should fix that. This is of course a pressurised system too.

I will hopefully be upgrading the tank to a 4 foot 200 litre tank and if/when i do that i will put in the "aquatic mix"

The reason I was thinking about a moonlight thing is because it's in my bedroom and then I can watch them as I go to sleep :)

My CO2 should be ok because it's only a DIY mix in a fizzy bottle with the Nurafin diffuser.

When are you gonna give me some of that plant fert then Luke??
