sharn
chin- do alot of those fish get judged on colour, pattern etc rather than shape? i think the germany champ would do wonderfully in my tank
reef
i wonder if they use hormones to get the colours?

Luke*
Some really nice discus here, and you will see on most of them they have a small eye in proportion to their body, it shows they've been brought up well with good feeding and large daily water changes. However....they got some of the grading totally wrong IMO, and some of the fish are not very round (e.g 3rd, pattern; 3rd, unclassified solid colour). With the spotted reds, 2nd should be 1st as from the photos you can see the current "2nd fish" has a much smaller eye, much rounder shape, and the forehead and chin are rounder. 3rd place should be 2nd (Roy's beautiful fish) for similar reasons, and 1st should be 3rd too. 3rd, Unclassified stripes/pattern/spotted has a much nicer chin than 1st and 2nd. Love 2nd unclassified solid colour (white butterfly it looks like). For the red spotted fine lines, 3rd (STUNNING FISH) superceeds 1st and 2nd due to it's excellent dorsal and anal fin transitions, as well as having a smooth forehead and chin, although doesn't look like the best pic of 1st. All great fish in that category. I like 1st in blue/green, note it's interesting this is the category they've decided on...clearly the blue is getting diluted to green.. nooo! Discusguru
Hey Chin, thanks for sharing the photos of those beautiful discus. I was fortunate enough to view them in person. They look heaps more nicer . All the winners in both the competition are fantastic. Luke, .. to clarify how they judge the fish... There is about 10 different things they look for when judging the discus and there is a maximum of 10 points in each of them. It's not only base on shape of the discus. Most of the fish score an average of 6 points for body shape out of 10. All the points from the different judges are posted on the board for everyone to see how the discus score. In the Malaysian Aquafair there is also competition on the Fancy Goldfish, Guppy, Bettas, and Arowana. The quality of those fishes are amazing. Cheers, Ron
