Travelling Fish

Hello,

Its great to finally find a bunch of people who know something about tropical fish, Great idea with this web site.

My dad passed away two years ago and he had a room full of tanks 25 in total all for breeding plus two big community tanks. About 6mths ago I finally got around to getting the tank up and running. The only problem was I couldn't remember which fish went with what.

I have successfully kept a tank of thirteen fish that, I have recently found out we quite uncompatible, opps. But they all seem to get along every now and then I'd get up in the morning and the guppies would have apsolutely no fins left be hey they grow back.

Thanks to Caryl I found out about this web site and have learnt alot more about keeping a tank. My partner and myself are moving to Dunedin this weekend so we have had to give all our fish away accept we are going to try and transport our Plecostomus (Probably not the right spelling but it sounds right) and our crazy sucking loch. It will be 36hours out of there tank so with some good advise from caryl and a bit of luck they'll survive.

I hear there are heaps of really cool fish enthusiasts in Dunedin who might be keen on giving some better advise on which fish I should buy. The shop where I am now just wanted the sale not caring as to a happy community.

I want to say a massive thank you to caryl for helping me to find good homes for all my other fish, it meant alot to my partner and myself. Thanks so very much

Hi boxa_girl, good to see you signed up :D

I have the polystyrene box ready for you and will bring it around tonight and pick up the other fish. Have also got containers for some spare tank water to transport the loach and plec with water changes until you can get a tank set up again. I am sure they will survive the trip - just keep the dog out of the box!

She is hoping some of you Dunedinites might be so kind as to donate a few fish to her when her tank is set up again. They have had to leave their fish behind and so have given them away hoping the Dunedin club may have a few to replace them with (at my suggestion as I told her how kind the Dunedin club members were, as are those of you who don't belong to the club)

She has had to leave a few tiger barbs, neons, guppies and a male Siamese fighter.

The fish have settled boxa-girl. The fighter has a tank to himself and the 2 tigers are swimming about exploring their new home. The guppies and neons went to Deidre's last night so I am sure theyare happy too. Will write a letter to Colin in the Dunedin club and send it today.

Have a good trip south and hopefully we will see you in here often. Hope the loach and plec travel well.

Hi there guys, sorry I have taken so long to get back to you, thought I'd quickly go online during my luch break to let you know we got on. We took both the Plecie and the loch out of the tank AT 10AM friday morning, they travelled well. We arrived in Dunedin at 7pm Saturday night it took us 12hours from when we left Blenheim til arrival in Dunedin. I had to set up the mini tank and declorinize the water, so the fish didn't go into the mini tank til Sunday morning 9am. the Plecie was still going strong but the loch had started to freeze. when you moved the container he did rolly pollys if you know what i mean.

We popped them into a bag brought them to temperature and after an hour or so the loch had thawed out and started swimming again.

So this weekend I am hoping to set up my proper tank, the only problem is my equipment is being used for the small tank so it might get a little chilly in the small tank while working at being the big one to temperature. They are pretty tought fish though.

I am glad my other guys are doin well We really miss Marlin and Nemo tho, so first chance we can get we are going to get some replacements.

Thanks again for all your help.

I was wondering how you got on boxergirl. Good to hear the plec made it at least. I am sorry to say the fighter here died, I have no idea why

Hope you get the tank set up again and restocked soon. I wrote to Colin so, when you are ready to join the Dunedin club, give him a call.

Hey Boxa Girl

I have just accepted a job in Timaru so will be selling up and leaving Dunedin. I know you are looking for fish so do you want to buy some of my fish, as I recently changed to Discus, there is nothing over about six months old.

They are bigger than in the fish shop (except discus which are still growing) and will sell for about half the purchase price.

5 Discus

4 Cardinal Tetras

2 Harlequin Rasboras

1 Bristlenose Cat

3 Siamese flying fox's

Also availible tank 1.2m *.45m *.45m

Couple of heaters, couple of filters and some plants and driftwood.

Also about 18 trays of Bloodworms.

Mark
