hi all,

for those who used MH for their planted tank. just wanted to get some ideas of what K colour people used for their tank.

is 6500K daylight MH double ended bulb hard to sought after? there are many 14000 K or 20000k available. wondering these are suitable for planted tank.

yep use 6500K 150W

hard to get these days and haven't seen one for a while.

ur second best option is 10 000K i get good growth with it, actually i find it much more pleasing color to look at for a tank.

14 000 and 20 000K are no good as they're basically purple/blue color.

From what I've heard, replacing the bulb per annum will suffice, but I think 6 months is better. In the bakery that I work in, we changed the MH bulbs lighting the food display, and you can certainly tell the difference. I think the old bulbs had been up for a good 18months though.

so how long would a bulb last until you have to replace one?

different brand of bulbs have different average bulb life [its should be on the packet/box or just simply Google the product] BLV have average life of 6000Hours.

Try switched on gardener they sell MH bulbs for growing plants (funny that)

Or give lamp specialists or lamp brokers a call

u would think so but they stock very different bulbs then what we normally use for aquariums.

lamp specialist dont stock bulbs in the K we're after as its not commonly used for anything else and the ppl that do stock MH bulbs for aquarium use are normally selling to the saltys which don't really use anything under 10000K.

So you can't get 6500k bulbs??

How about osram or Sylvania.

I can get them down here if you get stuck, they are pretty common.

Osram and Sylvania are the same thing. ["Osram Sylvania" is the full name] i am unaware they do 6500K DE bulbs.

i only ever used 150watt so i know they only do 150 watt in warm white and neutral white 4200K. correct me if i am wrong. [i hope i am as Osram bulbs are great 10000Hour lifetime]

what can u get down there? i'll be needing more in about 3 month time so any info would be great.

Yeah, they are branded a bit diff.

You are after 150w de a.

150w de come in 6500k for sure. I think they call them coralstar? i will check.

It is really only fish people that use bulbs with a higher k rating, that is over 6500k.

just went to Rexel Lighting and ask for a 150W daylight range . they said they dont do that range, only 3200 - 4300K for 150 W series, as for other nz lighting shop as well. the only daylight range available is 250W screw in types, is this true?

what brand of bulbs are u talking about? true for some brands not true for others.

also better to ask for Ks rather than "day light" "neutral white" "warm white" as these terms are determined by each company while day light could be 3000K for one and 5000K for the other.

did we get any info on those bulbs TM?
