malawiman
Hi all I'm new to the site, but not the hobby. Been involved since early age and started keeping/ breeding malawis 15 years ago when residing in South Africa. Had to sell all my stock and equipment when i moved here. Got the fishroom up and running now and need stock. Looking for the following: dickfeldi, duboisi, tropheus moori red, kachese and bemba. If anyone can assist me in this matter i'll appriciate it. Thank you

Tiden
If I was you I would have a look at the topic "who's breeding what" in the general breeding forum and go from there. Rcon021 is breeding all those tropheus except the reds, but get in quick bcause I beleive there is a waiting list. If you want Frontosa's would highly recommend the ones on trademe. Tropheus
Hi Good to see you are converted to Malawis and Tangs. There are a few good fish around at moment esp tangs. But be VERY careful about Malawis as i have seen a few HYBRIDS around lately and even though the breeders know they are hybrids they just dont care as long as they can make a quick buck or two. *****THAT JUST F*#KS ME OFF***** Anyway, best bet is to bite the bullet and purchace stock from your LFS and ask first if they are imported. There are good retailers up here in AKLD who supply good fish. OK they might cost more but look at the rewards later down the line.
ryanjury
Yeah what Tropheus said, I noticed you posting on that guys auction on trademe as well He rung me up and couldn't understand how they were hybrids or how it was wrong etc so in the end I just gave up.. Unless local breeders with good fish will sell you them buy fish you know look right from shops and get them id'd on cichlid-forum is what I do. Good luck, did you find any tropheus? parry
Try Hollywood fish farm in Mt Roskill, i understand they where getting some but they're not cheap. I sourced some from Redwood Aquatics Aquarium & Water Garden Centre at a very good price - am waiting on a few more - they're importers so you can expect to wait at least the 6 week quarintine period at least. Their details are available by PMing me.

fishy_t
Seeing as this thread seems to be attracting lots of African Cichlid people - I thought you might want to see this, its a case study we looked at in Genetics recently when were we talking about diversity reduction in founding populations - the moral of the story is that Tanganyikan's are more diverse, genetically, than Malawi's and Victorian's as the Tang's are the ones that founded those populations... quite interesting!! Anyway - take a look!!:
herefishiefishie
Seeing as you are form S.A, chances are you have seen more species than any of us lot. As stated earlier, watch out for hybrids. There seem to be a alot floating around in NZ judging by the ID this photos I have seen. Be very careful in buying fish, scientific names are a help. Common names seem to be to common that turn out to be hybrids. Good luck in your search, any questions, fire away. There are a few of us here that have some experience, especially with African Cichlids. Frenchy
